Enchanted Forest Teaching Pack

This is a great value resource consisting of five detailed learning resources for you to choose from. The pack is an ideal way to help your child improve their descriptive writing skills. Students are asked to think about what this writing style is, to familiarise themselves with relevant vocabulary, to plan and write up their own description and work through a detailed guide. You can do all the scheme, or just work through the key descriptive task. This invites students to describe a walk through an enchanted or frightening forest. The learning resources are also an ideal scheme of work for students of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' or any other text set in forests or the wild outdoors. It also works well as a stand-alone descriptive writing unit for students in years 9 up to year 11.

This resource contains the following:
  • Sorter Strips for 'What Makes A Good Story?': Students are invited to read through printable strips describing various 'good ingredients' for effective fiction and then re-order them in order of importance out of 12. Helps them isolate the key ingredients of good writing.
  • A PowerPoint slideshow summarising descriptive writing, with useful technical terms and detailed examples to inspire them! The slideshow can be quickly adapted for any theme, but focuses on a forest topic.
  • A clear two-sided task sheet inviting the students to imagine that you too are stranded all alone in the enchanted forest. The sheet has a model opening paragraph to help get the students started.
  • Lots of relevant high-quality images to inspire them.
  • A great little 'forest story' grid game, which you just print out in colour and laminate. This is used to do the paired creative 'forest writing' task and supports the PowerPoint. Alternatively students to make their own 6X6 story grids, as suggested in the slideshow!
  • A handy vocabulary sheet with words and phrases for forests, darkness and light, covering adjectives, nouns, verbs, metaphors, similes, personification and symbolism. The sheet really helps them focus and broadens their expression. Ideal for all students and especially EAL learners.
